Some snags along the way but...

Yes we had some snags along the way with the new (to us) camper, a gas leak yikes! That's been fixed thank goodness and not a big chunk out of our pockets. On top of that the couple who sold us the camper lied a bit with the new batteries so we had to have all 3 replaced, but again not a big deal. The awning wasn't even picked up even though we paid them for it so we're going tomorrow to pick the money up and then get the awning ourselves.

Had the camper at the shop the past couple of days to fix the issues and today is inspection day, with all these fixes and new wiper blades we purchased I am confident it will pass (crossing my fingers).

I cant wait to get our baby home and put our own touches on her, the hubby wants to name her Felisa after his mother who passed away years ago and I'm ok with that. She was a wonderful woman.

I'll make this post short and sweet today as I have a busy day ahead of me here at home. Dishes, laundry, taking care of the pets.... you know the drill.

We've gone and done it....

So we DID IT! Yes we sure did, we finally got our camper and I'm in love..... it's a 1989 Winnebago Super Chief with only 35,000 miles on it, new brakes, new tires, new awning, even new mattresses (pillows, blankets and dishes too) and this baby has so much storage space I'm super impressed.

We got the title transferred today 9/8/17, new plate and insurance on our new baby and we have some plans on doing some painting and changes in the RV to have my personal touch to it! Sunday we put on the new awning and Monday she gets a fresh new inspection.

I am sooooo excited I am so proud of myself and the hubby for saving money and being able to pay in cash for everything. Feels good to be a little on the frugal side..... We kept saying to ourselves to "remember our dream" and sure it feels amazing. Pictures to come in the next few days so keep a look out for them.

The couple we purchased it from took really good care of it and it shows. Not only that I think we made some new friends as they invited us back for a cookout on Sunday as well.

Until next time, God Bless.

Decluttering CAN be so much fun... AND

Decluttering CAN be so much fun AND ... can make you money too! For the past couple weekends the hubby and I have been learning to let go of things that DO NOT bring joy in our lives and either give them away or sell them at the flea market. We've made some money but we also donated some to local charities and YES it feels amazing.

Who would have thought that after a few months of "really" trying to simplify our lives that we would actually be doing it? Not me, that's for sure but we are and I am super excited about what comes next.

I was watching a you tube couple the other day and the couple talked about going through all and yes I mean ALL your belongings and find out whether the item brings JOY into your life. How to do this is a time consuming task BUT it really does work. What you have to do is hold each and every single item and ask the question DO I FEEL JOY? If you answered yes you keep it, if no then either sell it or donate it. At first it seems easy but when you get to sentimental items there will be tears and emotions but remember DOES THIS ITEM MAKE ME FEEL JOY?

With all that we are still slowly getting to each category but so far so good, until next time, be JOYFUL!

Simply Your Life

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted but it's actually for our good.

Recently my husband and I have really been trying to live more simply, such as getting rid of stuff we dont need or use, or practicing alternative ways to do things, such as composting, making our own concoctions, selling away stuff at the flea markets to save for our future dream of purchasing an RV/Camper and travel and find a new place to live simply/off grid.

Funny thing is, we are both on board to simplifying our lives, the husband donated 4 large grabage bags full of shoes and clothing to good will and I well, have done the same and more. I am one of those people who want stuff gone so I don't mind giving it away if someone really needs it, that's when I freecycle it locally.

Sometimes I sit back and realize how good it feels to get rid of stuff, I currently live off approximately 30 pieces of clothing, a few pairs of shoes and it feels amazing. I realize after all this time that "stuff" doesn't make me happy like I thought it did. I don't need to have the coolest things or the best house I just want to be happy and I AM!

On that note, we put our house on the market and hoping for a few showing to come our way and then we can begin our dream of traveling, oh how much fun it will be!

Homemade Strawberry Jam

Today my husband and I made strawberry jam, it was fun and it turned out super yummy. Since we're newbies at this, we went with the no cook version until we get used to things.

For mothers day my wonderful hubby purchased me some books I wanted at the Tractor supply store, one being the ball preserving recipe book where we saw the strawberry jam recipe. I think he was more excited than I was since he's the jam eater in the house but we made it a family thing to do thing together. So off to the grocery store we went to pick up supplies and started as soon as we got back home. Fun, easy and tastes good too? Wow this is amazing.

Not sure what is on our list next, but I'm thinking something with herbs but since we don't at this current time, have our own garden we purchase from the farmers market or mass chain grocery stores for our ingredients, but hey it's a start.

Happy Homesteading!

Compost bin...check... NEXT a homemade bug repellant spray

I have to admit this is getting to be so much fun, learning new ways to be self-reliant and making my own things. Yesterday I got the compost bin finished and didn't need the carbon filters just some holes all around with some browns and greens to start it up and it's complete.

Today I made a homemade bug repellant recipe I found on a wonderful website (link down below) called the "Vinegar of the Four Thieves" which has a story behind it. I have it sitting for approx. 3 weeks till I can strain the herbs and get to using it before mosquitos and other yucky bugs come at us with the warm weather.

If you have a tried and true recipe, please let me know if the comments below, until next time... Live Simply!

Kitchen Composting Bin

As I learn many new ways to live self-sufficiently, I am really into making my own homemade things and next on my list is a composting bin.

Along my travels to many and I mean many YouTube videos, groups on facebook and various homesteading websites I figured I might as well get the feel for it before getting our own homestead and then being clueless or trying so many things at once so here goes.

So as of right now I'm heading to tractor supply to pick up some carbon filters to do a makeshift compost bin using an old 5 gallon pickle bucket with removable lid, where I'll cut some holes in the top and attach the filter.

If anyone has any tips or tricks, Please send them my way..... until then have an awesome day!

DIY Homemade Face or Hiney Wipes... the family loves them

Ok so in my adventure to become a little more self-sufficient, I came across a small tutorial while watching a YouTube video about hiney wipes but they are also great for your face as well since it contains all natural ingredients. Here's how ya make em'.

Small container with tight lid
Quilted Napkins and/or paper towels
16 oz. cup
Squirt of sweet almond oil
Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap (any scent / your choice)
Lavender Essential Oil
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Vitamin E liquid (optional)
Water

How to make:
Fill up your container with the napkins or paper towels
In a cup put in a dash of sweet almond oil, squirt of Dr. Bronners liquid castile soap, a few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oils, a few squirts of vitamin E liquid and mix, add water and mix again.

Pour cup contents onto the papers towels/napkins and make sure to lift a few so each one gets the mixture on them. Sometimes the bottom towels don't get wet so I usually lift the bottom ones and pour the mixture on the bottom of the container.

These not only are good for any part of the body but are compostable as well :) Be sure not to flush these down the toilet as it may cause clogging.

Murphy here for a visit?

I say that with worry in my heart, lately things  and little things only, are becoming a pain in the hiney. First the toilet seat broke ($6 fix at walmart), bathroom door hinge getting loose (Screwgun fix), just redid the dining room and living room hardwood floors and notice the chairs made scratches, no fix unless we want to sand down and start again, our dog Bella had to go to the vet ($300 later she has bladder stones) and we can try our homemade recipe of apple cider vinegar with food or water or pay another $800 to have them removed. Mind you our previous dog had the same issue we paid for the surgery and she passed away a week later. So for now, the apple cider vinegar is our first try and believe it or not, she actually likes it with yogurt. So without further ado, I will be planting some pretty flowers outside today in this lovely weather and get to cleaning.

Another day tomorrow at the flea market with the hopes to make some money to save for the future Tiny House and Land OR pay for the surgery for my baby girl Bella. Crossing my fingers the ACV works as I've been reading about how it's worked for other Shih Tzu dog owners. Prayers Please.

The Wheels are turning....

Such a true statement but not as far as a bus but the wheels are turning in our heads and everyone is so on board now with simplified living. The reality of it all is we are ready, I was able to start simplifying my life by selling off a bunch of my belongings at the flea market yesterday, made a decent amount, put some in savings and the rest to my credit card which is now PIF. It's a start to a dream that will come true.

Spoke with hubby yesterday and as much as he loves his "things" he agreed to sell off our professional embroidery machine and t-shirt printing machine, even if it means taking a MAJOR loss on it just to gather funds to fund our dream. This is E X C I T I N G !!!

YouTube has been our friend lately and once we start this journey, we will also start our own youtube channel complete with videos, bloopers included just to record the process, the ups and downs, mistakes and ideas. So keep on the lookout for that in 2018!

For now, the saving begins and the house selling process will begin shortly, stay tuned!

Off the grid....

Lately, my hubby and I have been watching videos on YouTube about living off the grid, building a tiny house, etc. And of course, it's appealing to me, some guy made a van into an off the grid camper, with solar panels, storage, kitchen and fully insulated for less than $5K, not bad if you ask me. It didn't have a bathroom though so that kinda bothered me but he did mention taking showers with a portable shower (water holder) and a magnetic shower curtain with rod once he opened the back doors to the van, kinda neat. Just not so much liking the no toilet.... I mean even a compost toilet would be an option, something to think about for the future I guess. For me this is an option but I would much rather buy a camper that is drivable, then fix it up how I see fit, since it still would be under $5K since around my area, people just want to basically give stuff away because it's just sitting in their garage or yard and not being used. Just the other day I saw a camper online for $800... what a bargain. If anyone has converted their camper into an oasis or even a van/truck into a camper, please show the love and send us pictures and a rough cost :)

It's time to start S A V I N G

Some may think of this a being a hard task, I think it's doable if you set your mind to it! I recently opened a savings account with my local bank and as soon as I was done and got into my car to drive home, I felt.... relieved... is this possible I thought? OF COURSE it is, I CAN DO THIS, and so can you! Many years ago, I had to save for something I really wanted (no, I didn't need it!) I really just wanted it, so I was able to save a few thousand dollars in a matter of 6 months, some of you are wondering "How the heck did I do that?" the answer is pretty simple. Stop eating out, stop and think before making a purchase and most of all if you've thought about making a purchase and didn't.... take the money you "would" have spent and put into your savings. Even if that was a $1 for a cup of coffee or $100 on that purse you just had to have but didn't buy.... just think of how fast you can save up for something. I'm sure you've seen my post about traveling the US, so now it's time for me and Hubby to get into really saving. It's funny because I was in a store the other day and I wanted to buy something and now out of habit I ask myself "Do you REALLY need that?" The answer is always NO, so I think "Good I can put that money into savings!" It's all about control and mindset. Sometimes we often feel we need this or that when we really don't, I mean it's not a dire emergency for me to have that wonton soup, I'm sure I could find something at home to eat. Saving money isn't as hard as you think and we don't need to keep up with everyone else, it's time to be happy with what you have and think big, long term. For me I'm saving so I can travel the US with the hubby and enjoy myself, and yes, while some of those attractions aren't NEEDED, it's what I'm saving up for. Have a goal in mind and GO FOR IT! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Dreaming.... of selling mostly everything and travel the US

I recently posted on my favorite forum website about selling everything and travel the US, to which I received MANY MANY responses. One major hurdle was having a "safe place" as far as insurance and drivers licensing goes and well that's finally figured out. Now the question is how do you go about selling almost everything? Of course, on my internet searches, I've come across many websites of people who have done just that! How cool! Hold an entire house contents sale - Obviously, it makes sense, so while our house is on the market we will post in free publications, local facebook groups, local Craiglist categories, with the hopes of getting people to come but that's not my only idea. I usually sell a few times a year in the spring/summer at a flea market called Saylorburg or Blue Ridge Flea Market and I make a decent amount of money but of course I will NOT be lugging my furniture around there (plus my car isn't big enough for that) so that's when the house contents sale will come in handy. Some are probably asking, what about your jobs? (Hubby and I) Well, hubby can take a leave of absence for a while and I've already talked to my boss and since he just signed a 5-year lease so, when we get back I will still have a job (I am a manager of a children's clothing store). If not, I can always search for another job which in my field isn't hard to find. For me, I just want time, time to be me, to do the things I want, to not worry about this or that and to sightsee around the US, nothing wrong with that. PLEASE if anyone has any ideas, thoughts or places to visit, comment below. I'd love to hear from you! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I've got something brewing....

It has come to mind a few times in previous years but this time I am pretty set on doing it. What's that you ask? Sell it all and travel the United States. YUP! you hear me, sell both my home and my belongings, get a travel trailer/camper and hit the lovely roads in the United States. I know it seems like a dream to some, but for me and my husband who've always been just OK, have come to realize that owning 2 homes (1 is rented) is just not for us, neither is being a landlord, especially when renting a home to a family member means, no profit and sometimes having to actually help pay. We're just tired and now realize we want to just GET UP AND GO! If we sell our homes and most of our belongings, we can when needed, find odd jobs to make a few bucks but wouldn't have to worry about working 40 hours a week just to pay bills but we would be able to have fun in life! With 7 grown children we think it's time to get going, enjoy life, have fun, not worry! If anyone has done this and has any pointers, tips, etc... send them my way. We're not saying we want to do this forever but we can if we want to. Having the mindset to say I AM DOING THIS because I WANT TO can make things so much easier. We would leave our jobs on good terms, so if we ever decided to return back we could get our jobs back (Hubby works for a very large and VERY well-known marketplace). Comments, thoughts? *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
